Our Jessup clan resided in New York State for many generations before moving to the Midwest. We located some Jessup graves on Long Island on a family vacation in the 1960's. I imagine they are still there. We all helped my mother make some rubbings of the gravestones. This spooky image from Mehetabel Jessup's stone came out pretty well. And here is what we recorded on Mehetabel's husband's stone (I really wish I knew what is meant by the description of his birth):
THOMAS JESSUP
Whose remains are here interred
Was born February 28, 1721, old style
And deceased the 20 of May, 1809 in the 89 year of his age. He sustained for many years
with great reputation to himself and
with much usefulness, the office

"Those shalt come to thy grave in a full age like a shock of corn cometh in his season" John 5.26
Death kills the body, but the soul his stroke survives and by the blood of Christ redeem'd to mansions celestial.
