Here is a photo of the family and friends who attended the Golden Anniversary in 1903 (subject of the documents below). This would be the 50th wedding anniversary of the couple who settled Springmere Farm near Oswego Illinois in the 1860's. You can make them out as the older couple seated at the base (and slightly right) of the right post of the porch. They had traveled west after the Civil War as a young married couple from New York state along with many of their family and friends. New opportunity-- think of the adventure. have you visited Montrose, Pa? Many historic Jessups from East Hampton, NY moved there in the ealry 18oo's. The most famous being Judge William H. Jessup, who was born in East Hampton and moved to Montrose. He wrote portions of Lincoln's platform and gave his nominating speech at the Chicago Republican Convention for his 2nd term. Judge Jessup did the same for President Grant. Pictures of Sylvanus Sanford Mulford and his wife Fanny Jessup Mulford are at the Susquehanna Historical Society in Montrose. In the famous photo of Lincoln with his officers in front of a tent . The officer without a hat is George Jessup. His hat is at the historical society. The Jessups are all in the Montrose cemetary.
